Work in Progress is back for its fourth year. Next year’s conference will take place at Doncaster Racecourse on 25th April 2018, and will be packed with more new features than ever before. Our special guest speakers for 2018 are Paul Lewis and Polly Toynbee.

Paul Lewis is a financial journalist and broadcaster, who presents Radio 4’s Money Box, as well as regularly appearing on the BBC News Channel, BBC Breakfast, and Today. Paul commentates on all aspects of personal finance, including tax, welfare, debt, and pensions. Paul will bring a unique perspective on the impact of Brexit, Universal Credit, the Apprenticeship Levy, and other key developments which impact upon those accessing employability services and work based learning schemes.

Polly Toynbee is an author, columnist for the Guardian, and formerly the BBC Social Affairs Editor and Associate Editor of the Independent. She is a forthright commentator on social policy, an ardent scrutineer and critic of welfare reform, and an advocate for public services and for those most disadvantaged in society. She will put current employability and skills policies under the microscope in terms of their impact on wage poverty, social justice, and community cohesion.

This year’s conference will also feature our very first “Oxford Union” styled head-to-head debate. Gill Morris, Chief Executive of DevoConnect, will be proposing a motion that devolution will improve the quality, integration, and performance of local public services. Opposing the motion will be Sean Williams, Chief Executive of Corndel Ltd. You, as the audience, will decide who has made the most convincing argument!

We are also introducing Mini Masterclasses; innovative, bite sized training workshops delivered by leading sector figures, sharing their ideas and best practice in special hands-on sessions. You’ll also get to see local expert apprentice Alicia Holdsworth, WorldSkills UK Finalist, demonstrating her floristry skills, with the prospect of some audience participation. Talking Tables, a firm delegate favourite, will also feature again in our programme.

We are delighted to confirm Shaw Trust and Cognisoft as Premium Partners. Please contact us if you are also interested in sponsorship and exhibition opportunities.
