The Crown Commercial Service’s new Smart Cities Transport Technology Infrastructure Framework will launch in February 2020, providing a major new route to market for suppliers of street lighting, traffic monitoring, traffic management, environmental monitoring and parking systems.
At the recent Smart City Roadshow in Leeds, public sector buyers told Carley Consult how they expect to use this framework to enhance the lives of city residents and visitors.
They stressed that “suppliers must ensure their products and services deliver striking outcomes; they cannot just be technology for technology’s sake”.
Services purchased through Smart Cities TTI must deliver social value and overcome the challenges posed by issues such as climate change, economic restructuring and an ageing population. People and the communities need to be at the heart of transformation.
Smart Cities TTI will build on the success of the CCS’s current Traffic Management Technology 2 (TMT2) Framework, which ends next year, with current TMT2 suppliers likely to be amongst those eager to apply to join the new framework. TMT2 is estimated to award £750m in contracts over 4 years, with Smart Cities TTI expected to award even more.
