On the 12th December the much anticipated Register of Apprentice Training Providers will open to providers that are new onto the register. You may have attempted to get on the register previously or be a new training provider entering the market. The good news for you is that there is no deadline and the portal will remain open with no closing date. Providers will get 2 chances over a 12 month period to make an application. The ESFA will take up to (and in some cases over) 12 weeks to assess applications with feedback provided if unsuccessful.
So, how do you assess whether you are eligible to go for this opportunity as a provider? At the 2018 AELP autumn conference, the ESFA stressed that “there is going to be a much stronger emphasis on quality, on delivery models and much stronger emphasis on the type of business we have operating the money.” Initial guidance supplied by the ESFA in the lead up to the register opening on the 12th December stresses that to secure a place on the register;
- You need to evidence 12 months of trading (not 3 as before) with robust financials in place. If you do not have 12 months trading you may still be eligible to apply as a supporting provider to enable you to build a track record.
- You are skilled in and can provide evidence that you deliver high quality apprenticeships before your application is submitted.
- Other than checking your eligibility, ensure you assess carefully which provider route you wish to take: main provider, employer provider, or supporting provider route.
