Vocational skills provider Melorio plc is reported to have been purchased by the Pearson Group in a deal worth £99.3m. Melorio is itself made up of a number of vocational training divisions, including Zenos and Learning World Academies, collectively supporting 15,000 learners per year in the UK across a range of sectors. Collectively it is one of the largest suppliers of work based learning on behalf of the Skills Funding Agency (formerly the LSC). Pearson is a global media and publishing group which owns both Penguin Books and The Financial Times. The purchase of Melorio is likely to bolster its existing education business, a leading publisher of education titles across 30 countries, and is seen as a springboard into developing an international vocational learning brand. The purchase of Melorio is one of the largest acquisitions to occur within the UK vocational learning sector.
