Salary: £15,000 – £22,000 per annum

Office Base: Doncaster (adjacent to the Lakeside complex)

What you will be doing:
The public sector outsources a wide variety of goods and services which are delivered by external partners, typically private companies or charities. This usually involves a competitive tender process through which such contracts are allocated. Purchasers publish their requirements and potential suppliers submit bids to provide the product or service in question, detailing the competitive benefits and value of their offer. These transactions are often of critical importance to the bidders; the stakes are high and bids need to be extremely persuasive.

You will be a member of a consultant bid team working with organisations to ensure their bids are better than all others. Producing bids that successfully communicate the most compelling arguments requires an analytical approach to problem solving, a passion for winning and outstanding written communication. You will analyse purchaser’s requests, research competitor’s solutions, develop winning strategies and write exceptional proposals.

You will be an important part of this process, following a proven development scheme to professional certification and contributing to our collective understanding of best practice.

What you will be responsible for:
You will be supported as you learn how to apply your skills to our business, and you will quickly find your responsibilities growing. As a junior consultant you will:

  • Conduct research to inform bid strategies, which may include identifying competitor strengths and weaknesses, investigating client needs and exploring potential solutions;
  • Contribute to the development of high quality bids and proposals on behalf of clients, including: writing, editing, proofreading, critiquing and mock scoring;
  • Act as a project lead on smaller assignments (up to £1m), leading clients through the bid production process, gaining their agreement on strategy and their approval of deliverables.

How your success will be measured:
Client satisfaction is at the heart of what we do. Securing valuable contracts is important, but so too is listening, advising, contributing and consulting. Your key measures will be:

  • Ratings received from clients via our independent feedback process, covering, accuracy, timeliness, communication, contribution, relevant knowledge, skill and expertise;
  • The success rate of the bids and proposals that you contribute to, plus your understanding of why they won or lost and the extent to which your work improves as a result;
  • The development of your subject matter knowledge in our core markets, to share with the team and to use in supporting clients to build their knowledge, insight and expertise.
